How does the Chamber decide on which policy items to focus on?
Downtown Development: The momentum has been building as we set a goal of having 10,000 people living in Downtown Jacksonville. Historic preservation projects like The Barnett, mixed-use development such as The District on the Southbank and corporate relocations like VyStar moving Downtown all help drive business growth throughout Jacksonville.
Major Port Status: Jacksonville is now the largest port by container volume in the state of Florida — and we’re positioned to drive even more growth. Work is underway to deepen the harbor, which will create more jobs in Northeast Florida and support a growing economy in the region.
Project Open Door: Project Open Door, similar to the “Ban The Box” movement, launched with dozens of Jacksonville businesses pledging to wait until the interview process to ask about a person’s arrest history. This is the business community leading the way and agreeing that by not immediately excluding someone with an arrest record, we make a positive change in our community.
